Wild Medicine & Crafting: A Bealtaine Workshop with Nettles
Hosted by Herbalist Luke Ó hErodáin and his wife Niamh Ó hErodáin
Step into the brightening of the year and celebrate Bealtaine with a day of herbs, craft, and community. While Samhain marks the turning of the Celtic New Year, Bealtaine is our threshold into the “light half” of the year. Together we will walk the land, focusing our energy on the incredible versatility of the Nettle, with the sacred Hawthorn (May flower) as our heart-centered guide (lovely herbal teas).
During these challenging times, it is deeply important to consciously regulate our nervous systems. Designed as a therapeutic retreat, this day integrates the earth’s natural healing with meaningful interpersonal connection to offer you a deeply restorative experience.
Location: Luke & Niamh’s Cottage, located between Fermoy and Ballyduff (exact location given closer to date after booking). Limited spaces available!
Morning — Nettle & May Flower Medicine
10:30 AM | Herb Walk & Gathering
A guided walk with Luke among the fields and hedgerows of the farm. We will meet the plants of the season, with a deep dive into the Nettle and the Hawthorn.
- Our Precious Nettle: We will practice the traditional gathering of Nettle leaves for their abundant health benefits and nutrient density. You will also learn the art of harvesting the roots for grounding medicine. Beyond the apothecary, we will explore the Nettle’s myriad uses, from its traditional role in strengthening hair and scalp health to its history as a fiber for making strong string and cordage.
Midday Meal
12:30 PM | Lunch (Bring Your Own)
Please bring your own packed lunch for the day. We will be providing a warming, homemade soup for everyone to enjoy alongside their lunches, and there will be plenty of fresh, restorative herbal tea available throughout the entire event.
Afternoon — Somatic Healing & Nervous System Regulation
1:30 PM | Herbal Somatic Session
A therapeutic afternoon led by Niamh dedicated to relaxing the nervous system through deep, embodied plant connection and interpersonal support.
- Somatic Plant Connection: We will shift into a restorative, grounded space, working with the herbs we gathered to anchor our bodies and soothe our nervous systems through sensory awareness.
- Listening Partnerships: Guided by Niamh, we will engage in listening partnerships. This is a gentle, highly effective therapeutic method used to foster authentic interpersonal connection, allowing us to hold safe, regulated space for one another.
