What Is Herbal Medicine?
Herbal medicine is a holistic and natural approach to healthcare that uses the healing power of medicinal plants to support the body’s innate ability to restore balance. Rooted in centuries of traditional wisdom and in many cases backed by modern clinical research, herbal remedies include teas, tinctures, extracts, creams, and custom formulations.
Rather than masking symptoms, naturopathic medicine aims to address the root causes of illness by gently guiding the body back into balance. It can support a wide range of chronic and acute conditions, as well as preventative care.
As a fully qualified and insured Medical Herbalist in Cork and Tralee, I work with you, and where needed, alongside your healthcare team. to create a safe, individualised plan. I also offer functional testing using trusted laboratories, for a deeper insight into your health picture.
Part of my focus is to source organic or biodynamic sustainable herbs. In particular ones that grow natively as there are plenty of natural remedies in Ireland. I’m also a member of the Associationof Foragers promoting sustainable foraging practices.

What to Expect from Your First Consultation
Your initial consultation is a comprehensive and compassionate conversation. We’ll explore your medical history, symptoms, lifestyle, stress levels, diet, and emotional wellbeing. A physical assessment may be included: checking pulse, blood pressure, tongue, nails, or skin indicators.
Based on this, I will create a tailored health plan that may include:
- Custom herbal medicine formulations
- Personalised supplement plan (if necessary)
- Nutritional and lifestyle guidance
- Optional functional lab testing
- Recommendations for follow-up care
- Ongoing support for repeat patients
My goal is to support your health journey not just for a moment, but sustainably and holistically. Herb work slowly on the body to address the root cause of your health condition. Therefore, it is recommended to do a course of consultations rather than just the one. This is done as a shorter return consultation (packages are available).
If this all sounds good to you, why not book a herbal consultation?

Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect in my first herbal medicine consultation?
The initial consultation can last up to 90 minutes where we go through your medical history, your presenting complaints and current lifestyle. You will be given adjunct advice, herbal remedies and any other suitable measures to help you towards improving your health.
As a patient in the clinic, you will then be able to book return consultations (30 to 45 minutes) for continued support.
You can bring any information such as medical files, blood tests or scans as part of the initial assessment. You will have the option to order functional testing.
How long does it usually take to see improvements with herbal medicine?
Unlike conventional drugs (biomedicine), herbal remedies are not “heroic”, meaning that they don’t act aggressively on the body. In other words, they act to support bodily functions and gently nudge them back into balance along with lifestyle adjustments.
While some herbs I use are “heroic” (for pain relief, sleep, cardiovascular health), you will be primarily using tinctures or herbal teas (infusions) as a means to support your health. These can often take several weeks to months before big changes can happen depending on how deeply rooted your health problem is.
What conditions can herbal medicine help with?
Herbal Medicine can help with many different health issues, in particular chronic conditions (skin / autoimmune / hormonal).
Other areas I focus on are:
- Cardiovascular Disorders
- Digestive disorders
- Men’s Health
- Women’s Hormonal Health
- Respiratory Disorders
- Functional Testing / Laboratory Analysis
- Allergies, Stress and general or Post-viral fatigue
- And more
Do you offer home visits for herbal consultations?
I can do home visits around County Cork, Lismore, Tralee and Killarney. I can go further afield, though mileage applies if it is not a location I regularly visit. Feel free to contact me and remember to send me the address you would like me to go to.
Can herbal medicine be used alongside conventional medication?
Yes. Medical Herbalists are trained to a standard that allows them to know plant-drug interactions.
Many herbal medicines are actually helpful as adjuncts in many cases (such as avoiding drug-resistance, reducing side-effects), though some herbs such as St. John’s Wort can affect how drugs are metabolised.
I will carefully assess the safety of using particular herbs alongside any conventional medication that is taken. It is therefore important to follow any instructions carefully.
I can work with your health team and email or coordinate with your consultant on your health plan. Conventional doctors are not insured or trained in herbal medicine or advanced nutrition, therefore, consulting with a Medical Herbalist is important before making a decision to take or not to take herbal medicines.
Can I order herbal medicines from you without a consultation?
It depends on what you are looking for!
If you want a herbal tea blend, or any particular dried herbs, I am more than happy to help you if you contact me.
However, to buy herbal tinctures from me you must have done an initial consultation. The reason for this is because I need to know your medical history, health condition and medications before I can formulate an adequate herbal medicine for you.
After this, we can do repeat prescriptions.
